Covalent functionalization of polyoxometalates: 3D model Models made with Chem3D Ultra, Version 9.0.1 (CambridgeSoft). A polyoxometalate is an oligomeric complex made of metallic ions and oxygen. Metallic ions belong to groups 5 and 6 of periodic table, and are in a high oxydation state. Oxygen atoms are under anion form O2- (oxo ligands). Heteropolyoxometalates contain other elements, apart from the elements belonging to groups V and VI. In the models below is shown a heteropolymolybdate: it's made of 6 oxidised Mo (group 5) surrounding a Mn. The colours are: Mo (aqua), O (red) and Mn (purple). Such a polyoxometalate structure is called Anderson structure. This inorganic structure is functionalized by two organic groups: 2-pyridinecarbaldehyde ligands. We added these two ligands in order to assemble polyoxometalates together later. The colours of organic groups are: C (silver), H (white), N (blue).
